PILOT PLANT

Description

The SUPPRESS Research Group (Suprevision, Control and Automation) of the University of León has designed and built an industrial pilot plant to carry out tests on a 50-liter reactor. The pilot plant models control loops common in the industry, providing a means for the study and learning of these systems. In it you can perform both advanced control strategies as well as monitoring and fault diagnosis by working on the physical variables: pressure, level, temperature, pH and conductivity. The Automatic Remote Laboratory of the University of León provides an online monitoring system for the pilot plant based on Visual Data Mining with Self-Organized Topological Maps. The plant is equipped with a process circuit with recirculation effected by a pump with variable-frequency drive. In this circuit, there is a 50 l reactor and two utility circuits associated to the temperature variable. The process implemented in the industrial plant controls pressure, temperature, level, pH, flow and conductivity using 8 control loops. These loops are designed to generate interactions among variables, according to the needs of the experiment, so that different control strategies (from basic control to multivariable control) can be studied. The SUPPRESS Research Group (Suprevision, Control and Automation) of the University of León designed, developed and implemented this system.
